On this day

In 1989 this was me. It lasted less than 18 months, it was not a shotgun wedding, we had been together for 5 years, but instead of papering over the cracks of our relationship it drove a huge wedge between us. I knew the minute I stood looking down the aisle of the church this was a big mistake, but I had spent months planning the day down to the very last detail, so I decided to have my day and pay the price later. The lady in the photograph is my Gran, she died of a sudden heart attack a year later, my parents did not resent the money the wedding cost because this became as much my Grans day as it was mine, and in hindsight gave her the best swansong. Of the day, I only have four photographs, my ex husband took them all and I have been meaning of late to ask for them back (which should be easy because I stayed in touch with his sister) The dress was silk Nottingham lace, It hangs on the back of my office door with the veil and shoes!
The photographs were taken by my uncle who taught Photography at Blackpool& Fylde College. I pleaded for days for him to take them and finally he agreed, I hate having my photo taken so this was a fantastic gift.

You look so pretty--but also sad. I hope you can get the other pictures back, or at least get copies.:-)
Someone recently saw my wedding photos and commented that I didn't smile much at the wedding. Well, no, I was stressed out of my mind and then there was the fact that my family was there.;-)

I think brides are under so much pressure to enjoy the day they forget sometimes to do just that. I looked a lot better after the speeches!

I agree with la belette -- you look beautiful, but sad or at least torn somehow -- lovely, attentive, observant photos-- I do hope you can get the others back.

I don't even look like me in my photos, just a little girl in a meringue
